Replying and reactions
Once you've found a thread, you have three ways to participate: reply, react, or message the author directly.
Replying
At the bottom of every thread is a reply editor identical to the new topic editor, markdown, formatting toolbar, attachments. It's collapsed by default; click into it to expand.
Two ways to start a reply:
- General reply: scroll to the bottom, type, Post Reply. Replies attach to the thread but not to a specific previous post.
- Quoted reply: on a specific post, hover and click the reply icon. The editor opens with a blockquote of the original post pre-filled. Use this to make conversation easier to follow in long threads.
Mentions
Type @ followed by a username to mention someone. The platform autocompletes from the list of users in the thread, then falls back to general user search.
A mention notifies the mentioned user (in-app notification + email, unless they've disabled @mention emails in Settings → Privacy).
Reactions
Each post has a vote pair at the bottom-left:
- ▲ (up) with a count.
- ▼ (down) with a count.
Click either to vote. Click again to un-vote. Your vote is tallied into the post's score, which affects the topic's "Trending" rank.
There are no other emoji reactions today. The two-vote model is intentional, it keeps the signal simple and gives the platform a clean basis for ranking.
The author badge
The original poster of a topic shows an Author badge next to their name on every post they make in that thread. Other roles you'll see:
- Author: original poster.
- Member: regular signed-in user.
- Moderator: community moderator.
- Admin: platform staff.
- Patreon: Patreon supporter (if the badge is enabled for them).
Badges help skim long threads, you can quickly tell which posts are from the OP and which are help from staff.
Flagging a post
Each post has a flag icon (top right) for reporting. See Moderation for what to flag and what happens after you flag.
Editing your own replies
Same window as topics, there's a short window during which you can edit your own posts in-place. After it closes, you can:
- Add a follow-up reply with the correction.
- Ask a moderator to edit on your behalf.
Notifications you'll get from a thread
- When someone replies to your topic.
- When someone replies to your post (any reply directly under it).
- When someone mentions you with
@username. - When a post you reacted to gets significantly more votes (optional, on by default).
Tune these in Settings → Privacy.
Where to next
- Send a DM instead → Messaging.
- Browse more threads → Reading and searching.
- Find specific people → Members directory.
